Protein Sparing Modified Fast (PSMF Diet) The protein-sparing modified fast (PSMF) is a fast but extreme way of losing weight or more specifically fat. The medical profession often reserves the PSMF Diet for those with serious illness perhaps in need of imminent surgery or those who are morbidly obese. It is usually considered safe under a doctor's supervision and when used for three months or less. In the PSMF no carbohydrates are eaten at all. This means that the diet is limited to meat, cheese, egg, fish, and fowl. Fats are allowed, but there's not much to put them on! Since mostly protein is eaten, it is simple but boring to keep to well under 1000 calories per day. Come back soon to read my take on Lyle McDonalds version of the Protein Sparing Modified Fast (PSMF Diet). |
